SXSW Visitors: Cool things to do in Austin

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASXSW brings a lot of visitors during March; many will be looking for some non-film, non-music, and perhaps even non-alcohol (insert gasp) distractions between events. Here are a few of my favorites:

Take a Historic Walking Tour.  Just off Sixth Street is the Bremond Block Historic district, with some of Austin’s oldest Victorians.  Congress Avenue and 6th Street have their own historic walking tour too.  Reservations need to be made ahead.

Have a late dinner. After all the hoopla, unwind at Justine’s, a really fun place, a French Brasserie with a great patio.  Can’t go wrong here but it may be crowded so call ahead for reservations.  4710 E. Fifth St.,

Walk at Town Lake and take a floral jaunt. Town Lake is such a beautiful walk, stretch those legs some more! (As if you need more exercise) and get some green flora beauty at Zilker Botanical Garden which is just off Town Lake.   It’s a lovely place to hang and get inspiration.

Boot Shoppin’. What visitor wants to leave Austin without boots?  My recommendations are:  Helm Boots at 900 E. 6th Street.,  Allen’s Boots 1522 South Congress, Can’t go wrong at either place, they are pricey so be prepared.
