The Best Austin Neighborhoods

Austin Monthly just published its July 2013 issue of the “24 Best Places to Live in Austin.”  I like that they grouped the neighborhoods by type of need:  family, empty-nester, fixer-upper.

As a long-time Realtor, I show homes in many of these neighborhoods in the central, west and south areas of Austin.  I have my own favorite areas, and I notice many of them were not on this list.  For example: not listed is Hyde Park, one of my favorite neighborhoods, which I would include in the young professional/empty nester category. And of course many families do live in Hyde Park, but I think the author’s intent was to group by exemplary schools and general profile of residents.

Here is the list:

Where to live if you have a family:

Lakeway

Westlake

Tarrytown

Sendera

Circle C

Barton Hills/Zilker

Steiner Ranch

Where to buy if you want a fixer-upper:

East Austin

Cherrywood

Cherry Creek

Highland

If you’re an empty nester:

Downtown

Allandale

Mueller

Clarksville

If you’re a young professional:

Bouldin

Travis Heights

Brentwood

North Loop

If you want a starter home:

Crestview

Westgate

Gracywoods

Lamplight Village/Scofield
