What’s a nice guy from Iceland doing in San Antonio, Texas? It’s the classic boy meets girl in Thailand, boy falls head over heels, follows her to San Francisco, then she follows him to Iceland, Love finally prevails and they live happily ever after in Texas. Siggi’s wife, Ana, is originally from Lubbock so they decided to raise their family here in San Antonio, Texas.  They have two kids, daughter that is 13 and a son who is 9.  Siggi commented, Like the bumper-sticker said, I was not born in Texas but got here as fast as I could.”

Siggi’s been an avid photographer since he as a child, starting out with traditional film during his middle school and continuing throughout his education.  Some of his talents were shared with him by his father who was a photographer, filmmaker and videographer for the Icelandic TV.  “Cameras were always around.” While at the University he studied architecture, interior design and furniture making.  Also an avid diver at the beginning of his career he taught scuba diving which he naturally combined his love of diving and photography.

Upon moving to San Antonio, which is not known for its large bodies of water, he started his business by shooting a lot of theater and performance art, theatre, dance, musicals, portraits, headshots and the occasional wedding. While accomplished in these areas, he is always being drawn back to the architectural context that he began feeding during his days at University.

There are multitudes of professional photographers but very few with the same sublime architectural sensibilities that Siggi has.  One of the hardest aspects of doing real estate photography is to capture images that stir emotion from the viewer.  How many ways can you take an image of an empty room?  Let’s take that further, how many ways can you take an image of an empty room and elicit an emotional connection which generates enough interest to get that person to reach out and want more information?  I’d safely say very few ever manage that level of skill and talent.

It’s not simply a matter of high quality equipment and post-processing skill, a real estate photographer has to be able to grasp the fundamental core of each and every home. A home full of possessions can be just as tricky as one that is empty.  The images have to give the viewer the ability to see themselves living in the space, see their lives unfold within the walls. People are visual creatures; we interpret visual information far more perceptively than the written word.  In today’s modern lifestyle everyone is on information overload.  Everyone has Smartphones, tables, the internet and we are constantly receiving, analyzing, sharing and creating new information at an exponential rate. Today’s first impression for selling real estate is online, according to NAR, 80% of buyer’s shop online first. How do you represent your client’s best interests to get their property noticed? By creating compelling visual images that can make a home really stick out from all of the other noise of modern day-to-day life.  Siggi stated, ” There is no such thing as curb appeal anymore, it is all web appeal and it is becoming more and more important that the realtor of the future realizes the best way to take advantage of tying together the imagination and imaging for their marketing.” “I hope that when people look at my images they can imagine themselves in their future home, dream, smell and feel the home before even stepping foot in there. That when they then go with the agent to look at the property they will feel like they came ‘home’.”

‘Siggi Style’, is what our agent’s call his stylized personal touch to all of his photography.  It’s no wonder his photography has a signature style, his favorite artists are Picasso and Jarvis.  Combining his education, training and artistic architectural interpretation with his skillful talents in processing digital imaging Siggi achieves grandeur from simplicity.  Most real estate photography is closer to documentary and simply is a photo of inanimate space or objects.  Siggi’s composition skills combined with his knowledge and skill with image processing programs (Photoshop, Lightroom and Photomax) gives his style its signature look and feel.
